What is an oral submission?
An oral submission is when you present your view in person (or via video call) to a parliamentary select committee, in addition to or instead of a written submission.
How to prepare
- Know your key points — aim for 3 or fewer main ideas
- Practice out loud beforehand
- You will usually have 10 minutes
- Bring notes but speak naturally
- Committees may ask questions — answer honestly, it’s okay to say “I don’t know”
